Alárìíyá meaning ‘Party People’ in Nigeria’s Yorùbá language, brings original compositions with a blend of afrobeat and high-life creating a unique sound. GP Saxy, brings a wealth of knowledge about Nigerian music and culture to Australia, and Melbourne, being the music capital has soaked it up, gaining a strong following. Alárìíyá, founded in 2014, by Nigerian born, Olugbade Okunade, aka GP Saxy, who began his musical career as master trumpet player in Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s world renowned afrobeat orchestra, Egypt 80. In April 2107, Alárìíyá released their debut self-titled album to a SOLD-OUT event at The Toff in Town, Melbourne’s leading live music venue.

Alárìíyá delivers the finest afro-jazz and funky rhythms, creating an exquisite afrobeat sound that captivates audiences everywhere. This authentic afrobeat flavour of Nigeria will awaken your soul and free your mind. Alárìíyá has graced the stage at; Moomba, African Music and Cultural Festival, Fairfield Summer Series, Queen Victoria Night Markets, Yarraville Festival and Converge On The Goulburn (Shepparton). Performances have featured blues-funk artist, Keziah Jones (FR/NG) on his 2015 Australian tour, and shared stages with afro-pop artist, D’Banj (NG), rock legends, You Am I, Nigerian-Australian Timomatic, Foreign Brothers, Black Jesus Experience, Sex On Toast, The Seven Ups, Sol Nation and many more.
